Sigma Beta Rho Fraternity has partnered with SOS Children’s Villages to assist in providing stable homes, education, health care, and basic needs for children around the world. SOS Children’s Villages is a global, non-profit organization that has been helping orphaned and abandoned children for over 60 years. SOS operates in over 130 countries and territories worldwide.
Because SOS knows no cultural nor racial boundaries, and because of their focus on the education of children around the world and the diversity of their staff, Sigma Beta Rho has seen SOS as a great match for our philanthropy of Youth Education & Development as well as our mission of promoting cultural awareness on university campuses across the United States and diversity among our membership.
In 2011-2012, Sigma Beta Rho will be supporting the SOS Children’s Village in Battambang, Cambodia, to which we have pledged $10,000. The Village was started in 2004 and has since added two schools that also serve neighborhood children from kindergarten to 12th grade. Cambodia has been devastated by HIV/AIDS during the past two decades and many children have been orphaned. The Village in Battambang, in addition to typical SOS operations, also assists those families affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
