Welcome to Sigma Beta Rho Fraternity National Convention 2014! The National Convention will be at the Hilton Crystal City from Thursday, July 10 to Sunday, July 13, 2014.

Description of Activities
Thursday July 10, 2014
Registration for convention will be through Eventbrite which is password protected.Payment for the convention will be processed through registration through the Eventbrite link (contact firstname.lastname@example.org for other accepted forms of payment if necessary). All pertinent information about the convention and registration thereof, is available on our national website as well as the National List Serv.
Upon registering for convention,you receive access to the following convention activities:

* All events where alcohol is being served will require a valid government ID before you are served alcohol. Underage drinking will not be tolerated.
** Entry to the Banquet Dinner & Open Bars on Saturday, July 12th will be contingent on your successful attendance to the required number of workshops. More information is provided below in the event description.
Arrival and Events
Once you have arrived and checked into your room, you will be directed to the Convention Registration desk. At this point you will receive the following items:

- Food and Activities Guide for Washington D.C.
- Convention Gift & Convention T-Shirt
8:00 pm – Arrival Mixer
The arrival mixer will begin at 8 pm on Thursday. There will be an open bar and music to create a social atmosphere. All brothers are strongly recommended to attend this mixer, as it is a great place to introduce yourself to brothers across the country, and reunite with brothers you may already know. Brothers will be wearing badges that have their Name, Brother Name, Crossing Semester/Class, and Crossing School. We recommend wearing (your) letters at this event, as it is a great place to get pictures, and show off your Sig Rho Gear. As always, you will be required to show a valid government photo ID to get any alcoholic beverages.
10:00 pm–Optional Brotherhood Outing
Wehaveleft Thursday night open for brothers to make plans to explore DC nightlife on their own. Our National Executive Board has put together a very beneficial schedule of seminars/workshops the next morning so we would prefer everyone enjoy their night responsibly, keeping in mind attendance is mandatory at some Friday’s sessions.
Friday July 11, 2014
Breakfast will be provided for 1 hour on Friday morning. This time will not be extended, so please plan to arrive on time with enough time to eat a good breakfast.
10:00 am–Resume Building Workshop
This workshop will be focused towards helping undergraduate students understand the importance of a well-constructed resume, the most important things to remember when creating a resume, and what tips and tricks can be used to make your resume stand out. Bring a copy of your resume for a quick review!
10:45 am–How to Interview Workshop
Participants will learn the proper way to interview for a professional position including how to prepare, what to prepare, how to interview, and how to follow up after an interview. Participants will be asked to actively participate for real life experience.
11:30 am–Professional Networking Workshop
The purpose of this workshop is to help undergraduate students prepare for their careers by creating a strong network of professionals that can help them along the way. The workshop will be geared towards new age networking including social media and face to face interactions. At the end of this workshop you should leave with a better understanding of how to build and maintain a strong professional network.
Lunch will be provided for 1 hour on Friday at Noon. This time will not be extended, so please plan to arrive on time with enough time to eat a good lunch.
1:00 pm– Undergraduate Resources Presentation (Mandatory for all Undergraduate Brothers)
This Brother-Led workshop will help undergrad brothers understand what resources are available to them. This will range from resources within the fraternity that will help you be a better brother to resources at your university that you may not even know exists. This will also provide you as an undergrad brother an opportunity to understand how to successfully utilize the network available to you within this fraternity.
1:45 pm– Running a Chapter Workshop (Mandatory for all Undergraduate Brothers)
This session will be led by members of the National E-Board. Everyone is strongly encouraged to attend this session as you will learn key information that will help you take your chapter to the next level, as well as solidify the current best practices. We will go over many common mistakes as well as some issues that constantly resurface on National Listserv. Please feel free to wear letters to this event.
2:30 pm– Future of the Fraternity Presentation
This workshop is for any member of the Fraternity who is interested in understanding the direction of our Brotherhood and the Goals we have for ourselves nationally, and who wish to one day participate at a higher level than your chapter. Please feel free to wear letters to this event.
3:15 pm– Graduate School Advice
This 45 minute break out will be open to any brothers planning to attend graduate school. Brothers from many different career fields will be available to give you advice on picking the right school, preparing for the right school, what the experiences are like, and many other important discussions that you may not get from a college recruiter. Please dress professionally, and come prepared with questions to ensure everyone gets an opportunity.
4:00 pm– Giving back to the Fraternity (Alumnus Only Workshop)
This 30 minute session is exclusively for Alumni who have graduated Spring 2013 or earlier. The purpose of this workshop is to help Alumni understand how they can be an asset to the fraternity and vice versa, even after graduation. Money is not the only way that Alumni can contribute, and through this session you will see the various options to stay involved with the brotherhood even years after you graduate.
5:00 pm– Free Time
From 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm, we have left the evening open so that brothers may enjoy the rest of the night off. We understand that a day of workshops can be tiring, so take this time to relax, go out to see the Nation’s Capital, spend time with brothers, and whatever else you may choose to do. This may be a good time to reference your Convention Documents to see some good local attractions as well as restaurants.|
11:00 pm– Brotherhood Outing
At 11:00 pm we will depart the hotel and head to a Club Venue in the heart of Washington D.C. Transportation to and from this event will not be provided, but we encourage brothers to travel together via train or taxi. Please reference your convention documents to see other travel options. Keep in mind you will need to bring with you a Valid photo I.D. to get into the Venue. Also, all convention rules still apply even though we will not be at the hotel. Any underage drinking, use of illegal substances, and other misconduct will not be tolerated. If you are caught conducting yourself in a way that goes against the rules of convention, you will not be granted re-entry to the rest of Convention and you will not be issued a refund.
Saturday July 12, 2014
9:30 am– Alumni Presentation (Alumnus Only Workshop)
The purpose of this Alumnus only Presentation will be to provide a more focused discussion around the Sigma Beta Rho Alumni. The discussions will provide some insight into professional networking, benefits of being in a National Fraternity, Opportunities available to our Alumni and how to capture them, and many other interesting topics. The goal is to enlighten our Alumni with some resources both fraternally and professionally so they may leave feeling motivated to be even more successful.
10:30 am– Investing in your Future Presentation
This workshop will give you a high level understanding of the options out there for investing and saving. 401(k), Stocks and Bonds, and strong credit are just a few of the topics that you will hear about. At the end of this workshop, you will have the opportunity to get a brief one-on-one with a financial expert to ask questions that you may have about investing your money.
12:00 pm– National Pictures
This 30 minute block is reserved to get some professional pictures of all the brothers in attendance from across the country. Please remember that this is a professional picture, therefore brothers will be expected to wear formal attire, and conduct themselves professionally. This time will not be delayed to wait for brothers, so please plan accordingly.
12:45 pm– 2014 Convention Presentation
Welcome to the 10th Annual National Convention of Sigma Beta Rho Fraternity, Inc. This quick presentation will capture many years of hard work across many states and chapters, and give you a renewed feeling of pride in your fraternity.
1:00 pm– National Council Meeting (Mandatory for all Undergraduate brothers)
The main event at convention, this one and a half hour time block will be used as our National Council Meeting. This event will be led by the National E-Board, and will require both designees from each chapter to be in attendance. This is the event where voting will take place on National Issues, Information will be provided regarding the goals and financial standings of the Fraternity, and questions will be answered by E-Board in regards to the Organization.
2:30 pm– Town Hall Meeting
This 30 minute segment is an open forum Q&A between the brothers and National E-Board. You will have an opportunity to ask any questions that you may have directly to the appropriate members of National E-Board. Please keep questions appropriate and be respectful of everyone’s time.
3:00 pm– Stroll Workshop
This workshop will be presented as an introduction to doing a basic stroll. As many schools are still new to this Idea, we plan to provide you with a step by step demonstration on the basic moves in strolling, the to-do’s and not-to-do’s of strolling, and a chance to learn the famous Michael Jackson – Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough stroll. Remember to dress comfortably.
3:00 pm– Step Workshop
With only a handful of schools that actively compete in step competitions, come out and learn the art of Stepping. Brothers will teach you the proper way to step, as well as teach a simple step that brothers can take back and personalize at their own chapters. Remember to dress comfortably.
6:00 pm– Open Bar pt. 1
There will be a one hour open bar before Banquet dinner. Please remember to bring a Valid photo ID with you, as well as your Name Badge.
7:00 pm– Banquet Dinner
Banquet dinner will open at exactly 7:00 pm. Brothers will be given 15 minutes to get seated before dinner is served at 7:15 pm. The menu will be provided in your convention information that you receive at the registration desk. During dinner, the National President Mohsin Hussain will give his State of the Fraternity Address, National Awards will be presented, and we will end by introducing the new, 2014-2015 National Executive Board.
10:00 pm– Open Bar pt. 2
There will be a one hour open bar after Banquet dinner. Please remember to bring a Valid photo ID with you, as well as your Name Badge.
Sunday July 14, 2014
11:00 am– Check Out
Check out from your room no later than 12 pm. You will be allowed to hang out at the hotel until it is time for you to depart. Please be respectful of the lobby and other guests and keep the noise level down.
The following events are mandatory for all undergraduate brothers to attend:
- Undergraduate Resources (7/11 – 1:00 pm)
- Running a Chapter (7/11 – 1:45 pm)
- National Council (7/12 – 1:00 pm)
You will check in at these events, and to do so you must have your Name Badge which is provided to you during check in. You will be expected to stay for the duration of the event to receive credit for attending.
******* To get into the Banquet Dinner, you must have received credit for attending all 3 mandatory events! If you do not receive credit for all 3 events, you will not be allowed into the Banquet Dinner. This is to ensure that all brothers receive the important information at convention, as well as enjoy their weekend. We are only requiring attendance at 3 events out of all the events that are taking place, so please do not be the brother who is not allowed into banquet dinner.*******
