Sigma Beta Rho Fraternity » Alumnus Highlight http://sigrho.com Brotherhood Beyond All Barriers Tue, 07 May 2013 17:24:38 +0000 en-US hourly 1 http://wordpress.org/?v=3.5.1 Mehul Shah – Brother Delikate http://sigrho.com/2010/11/17/mehul-shah-brother-delikate/ http://sigrho.com/2010/11/17/mehul-shah-brother-delikate/#comments Wed, 17 Nov 2010 02:29:18 +0000 admin http://www.sigrho.com/?p=214 Mehul Shah graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor’s in Psychology in 2008.  He is a Teach for America alumnus, who works towards closing the achievement gap at an urban elementary school in the 2nd ward of Houston.  After school, he coaches a Math Olympiad team and hosts after-school tutoring for his struggling students.  Many active undergraduate brothers of Sigma Beta Rho from the University of Houston chapter participate as Big Brothers and mentors at the same school.  They have donated money to the elementary school and engaged the youth to become better citizens of their school and community.

This summer, Mehul went to India for two months on a temporary assignment for a non profit organization called Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation.  Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation opens non formal schools in rural and tribal India.  Their mission is to eradicate illiteracy in India through empowerment of the rural population.  His role was to coordinate a social impact study in eight states of India.  At the end of his assignment, he spent time traveling across the country, searching for researchers who could extend the study into four other states.
Mehul is currently enrolled in a part time MBA program at the University of Houston and plans to continue working in the non-profit sector in the future.
